Experience the Boyle! Explore your potential!
15km south of the Lewis Pass, 30 mins west from the Hanmer Springs turnoff on SH7.
The Boyle River Outdoor Education Centre provides tailor-made outdoor education programmes for school and community groups, and offers a number of ‘Boyle’ courses for students. We also run expedition journeys and courses for adults. Any outdoor education idea – we can arrange it for you!
ADVENTURE AND LEARNING: New Zealand’s outdoor environment is full of opportunities for growth and adventure. We believe that working with others through challenges and activities in this environment, creates a rich learning environment for developing the NZ Curriculum Key Competencies, important life skills and crucially hauora. Get in touch and let’s discuss your tailor-made programme. For more information visit www.boyle.org.nz
HARD-TOP CAMP OR UNDER THE STARS: At the Boyle we can offer a variety of different style camps, helping you create sequential programmes that build on the skills you and your group already have. You can utilise the Boyle Lodge as your base or get out there and spend it in tents around the campfire. You can even have a bit of both!
The Lodge has seven bunkrooms of varying sizes sleeping up to 70 people and heated by new heat pumps. It is wheelchair accessible and all at ground floor level though much of the ground outside is shingle or uneven. The kitchen contains a gas oven and hob, an electric fan oven, microwave, steriliser, fridge, and adequate cooking and serving utensils to cater for up to 70 people. There is a commercial size fridge and a freezer outside.
The L-shaped dining room and lounge is carpeted and has folding tables and stacking chairs for 70 people. This room can also be used for viewing slides, films, videos, playing games, discussions and studying. There is also a small library, and further facilities include separate male and female toilets, showers and basins and a separate disabled shower and toilet.
SERVICES FOR TRAMPERS: Shuttles to local tracks, parking, backpacker accommodation, DOC Hut tickets, showers, and food parcel storage are available on request.
BOYLE ALPS TO OCEAN EXPEDITION: The Boyle Alps to Ocean expedition takes
you from the Lewis Pass in the Southern Alps to the Mouth of the Clarence River on
the East Coast using only human powered transportation – mountain bike, hiking,
and rafting. This is a programme designed to challenge and build upon previous
experiences.
A range of environments will be encountered and amazing memories
formed! Everything you need will be provided. Transfers from Christchurch – food,
accommodation, specialist equipment, fun!!!
If you have carried a backpack and done some tramping before then this is for you!
